The capital of the Ashanti region is Kumasi, which was also also the administrative capital of powerful Ashanti Kingdom. The kingdom stretched all across some parts of today’s Ivory Coast and a few kilometers north from Elmina. One popular tradition amongst this culture is Akwasiedae Festival that takes place every six weeks according to their 42 day calendar classification system. During this event 21 Chiefs in charge without responsibility for various clans come together with one King to pay homage and swear allegiance at an annual festival called ‘Akwaseida.’
